I seriously can't explain my love for these books.
Feeling sad? Read these and feel happy!
Feeling happy? Read these and feel happier!
Each book follows the lives of a girl of roughly 16 (book 1: Anna, book 2: Lola and book 3: Isla) and their journey to love. Stephanie Perkins is skilful in the way she intertwines each couple together with another, and with every book you know that you haven't left a character in a previous book behind.
For once in a very long time, these romances were real. The characters flawed but lovable, the story lines clever and believable. Stephanie Perkins obviously knows how long falling in love really takes, as the characters really only get together in the last few chapters. GIVE ME MORE! I NEED THE UNCOMPLICATED, TRUE LOVE BIT!
The books generally follow the same kind of story progression, but for some reason I never got bored. Maybe it's just me or maybe it's Stephanie's writing: I'm not sure.
But the thing I really liked (as I said before) was the fact that the boys weren't entirely perfect. They had their own little quirks, especially Cricket in the second book with his dress sense (search for Tom Fletcher if you want to get an idea of it), and Josh in the third book with his dedication to his art but complete lack of concentration to his schoolwork. They weren't the depressingly familiar cookie cutter boys, with their 'floppy hair' and 'deep green eyes'. NOTE: the most common eye colour is brown. Just saying...
For the days that I was reading these books, I was a romantic mess. And the days after finishing the series? Complete emotional wreck.
I'd recommend this PERFECT series to anyone in need of an easy, light read, or something to put them in a good mood. Or if you want your faith in the male gender restored...
